My First Blog Post
Hi everyone!
My name is Coach Alyssa. I’m the founder of Ita Gymnastics and welcome to my first blog post!
This is a place for me to share what I’m passionate about with the Ita family. My hope is you’ll find this helpful and/or interesting enough for us to be able to chat about it when I see you! I’ll be discussing how to do certain gymnastics skills, how I structure neurodivergent private lessons, history of the sport, conditioning, ways in which I am instilling positivity and understanding in the sport, and more!
I think gymnastics class is the best place to make friends. While it is a solo sport, you are never alone. My wish is that the strong bonds made at gymnastics will translate into an even stronger community. Most of my gymnastics classes will start with a warm up game. You immediately have a team and a goal. Accomplishing tasks together while having fun brings people together like no other.
A few of my greatest friendships were created through being teammates. We bonded while dreaming of our future floor routines, cheered each other on when we got a new skill, and checked in on each other when injured. These are friendships where we are aunts to each other’s children, bridesmaids in their unions, and a hand to hold at a funeral. My only wish is that we could have created these connections in a healthy athletic environment.
My gymnastics coach used to let me know “this isn’t a democracy, this is a dictatorship.” I’m on a mission to change that mindset in the sport. I think a good coach adapts, listens, and loves the clients they help. While we were doing classes in the park I met at least 10 kids who told me they had been doing gymnastics on their couch. I love the little ones of Bushwick and Ridgewood and want them to have access to safe and healthy gymnastics. I’m hoping Ita can provide just that!
Thank you to all who met us at Irving Square Park this Summer! I appreciate the support and conversations! We are now at 58 Studios, 883 Wyckoff Ave, Ridgwood, NY 11385. Fall registration is open and we’d love to have you! Sign up today! Don’t see what you need? You can always email loveitagymnastics@gmail.com for assistance.
I’m looking forward to getting to know more of you and your families!
Besitos,
Coach Alyssa
